Designing and Delivering Environmental Literacy Workshops: Our Experiences and Tips for Educators

We conducted 21 school workshops in Ontario, Canada that engaged over 600 students from grade 3 to grade 7. Teachers and kids loved them. In this webinar, we would like to share our experience of these successful workshops. Educators will also learn how they can use digital games in their classroom so kids have hands-on experience on how nature works. This can be an effective solution for classrooms that cannot physically take the kids outside to connect with natural ecosystems like Oceans and Wetlands.

In our workshops, kids got around 30 minutes to play our game, “iBiome-Ocean: School Edition” and learned about marine ecosystems and the human impact on our oceans. The kids were asked to fill out feedback forms about the workshop. From the survey it was evident that kids enjoyed playing the game a lot, especially the part of making food webs. Remarkably, the majority of the students stated they learned about the marine species and environmental challenges in a “fun way”. With a balanced mixture of videos and digital games, they became interested in discovering the world of oceans. You can find the details of those workshops in this report.
