Environmental Literacy Curriculum Connections

Open book on table. From the seam is a tree growing. Pencil illustrations relating to STEM and environmental education.

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are based on the premise that the purpose of learning science is to help students understand the natural world, solve problems, improve their lives and communities, and make the world a better place. Environmental Literacy is deeply embedded throughout NGSS and should be deeply embedded throughout your science curriculum, too!

This resource helps you identify units in five curricula (Amplify Science, FOSS Elementary, FOSS Middle School, SEPUP, and Ocean Science Sequences) that emphasize environmental concepts and add outdoor learning experiences to classroom routines.

It also helps school partners offer outdoor programming that connects to in-class science learning.

This resource is a valuable tool to support remote learning and plans to return to safe in-person learning by maximizing time outdoors.
