Design for Change
Design for Change (DFC) equips middle school students to transform empathy into social action using four simple steps: 1. Feel. Students listen to a Design Sprint Podcast to learn about a social issue. They can also engage community members to go deeper; 2. Imagine. Students work as a team to brainstorm solutions - in the classroom or they go into the community to get feedback; 3. Do. Teams develop an action plan to be reviewed in the classroom or they go into the community and implement it; 4. Share. Teams share their story with their peers and the community to generate awareness and inspire others to act. Educators guide students through the process and have access to dozens of free activities. Projects can range from 4 hours to weeks long. Projects are managed using DFC’s Online Educator Platform, and teams have the opportunity to be selected to represent the United States at the annual Design for Change Global Conference, held in a different country each year. Design for Change’s Design Sprint Podcasts cover a variety of topics rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and tackle a comprehensive array of issues around the environment, inequalities, and mental and social health. The Sprints encourage students to use compassion as a powerful tool and build their capacity to improve the world around them.
