Project Shark Awareness is an innovative outreach program created to educate the public about the myths and realities of shark biology, behavior, and conservation. This program consists of teacher training workshops that will enable educators to conduct "shark awareness" programs in their individual school districts. This project includes development of a teaching kit consisting of a PowerPoint presentation, teaching guide, handouts, methods to evaluate student learning (quiz, puzzles, questionnaire) and teacher evaluation sheets. Funding is provided in part by the Florida Program for Shark Research as well as Florida Sea Grant and the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund. 

Hands-on learning opportunities will be provided through a "shark awareness kit" that will include shark jaws, teeth, skin and fossils. A reference list will also be included for instructors and students who are interested in further pursing these topics. A companion web page within the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH) Ichthyology education web site will also be available online to accompany these Project Shark Awareness materials. 

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive a Project Shark Awareness Kit, allowing them to develop educational programs in their local school districts. Project Shark Awareness is a collaborative effort with FLMNH's Florida Program for Shark Research (FPSR) and the Florida Sea Grant Extension Program with funding from the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund. Discussion will also include how Project Shark Awareness fits into Florida's Sunshine State Standards.
