Environment-Based Learning Master's Degree Program

The EBL program is designed for classroom teachers and other “natural” educators who work with K-12 schools.  Classroom teachers who are seeking advanced coursework in education will gain the knowledge and skills needed to use the school’s surroundings and community as the context for a standards-driven curriculum. Non-formal educators such as those working as environmental educators in museums, nature centers, natural resource agencies, or conservation organizations will learn theory and methods for teaching content standards in various outdoor settings, as well as important aspects of supporting school-based activities. Most of the graduate courses are available online, with options to take courses fall, spring, and summer semesters. We believe it is important for educators to experience outdoor environmental learning methods and strategies; therefore, degree-seeking students are required to attend a minimum of 2 to 3 week-long summer courses on-site in Staunton, VA. Students may also take one to four courses as 'special students' without working towards the degree (note: Certificate involves 4 courses). More information may be found on our website at: www.mbc.edu/ebl.
