Sustainability is improving human and environmental wellbeing both now and into the future. Sustainability as an academic field of study is relatively new and methods for teaching transformative sustainability are still being developed. Just as the definition of sustainability includes improving human wellbeing, the way that we educate for sustainability should be grounded in inclusivity. We are seeking a graduate student to conduct research that evaluates best practices for inclusivity in sustainability education.

We are pleased to announce that the Louis M. Herman Research Scholarship committee is now accepting submissions.

Dr. Herman’s family, colleagues, and friends established the Louis M. Herman Research Scholarship in 2017 to honor his legacy by promoting the type of research that was the focus of his groundbreaking studies. The Scholarship is given every two years in the amount of $5,000.

In the spring and summer of 2020, an interdisciplinary, multi-institution research team will undertake a study of attitudes towards seals and sharks among voters, tourists and commercial fishermen on Cape Cod. The study is a collaboration among Salem State University, University of Massachusetts, Boston, Tufts University Center for Animals and Public Policy, Center for Coastal Studies, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, and the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance. The project seeks to generate knowledge about stakeholder views and experiences with seals and sharks. This research will provide the basis for an engagement plan in Spring 2021 to enable managers, policy makers, and non-governmental organizations to foster coexistence, enhance public safety, and mitigate seal and shark-related conflicts. The research also will result in academic presentations and publications.

Fellows across North America work in communities of color, low-income urban neighborhoods, impoverished rural regions, and across multi-state regions to mitigate the impacts of environmental degradation on communities by helping them become more resilient to the pressing challenges.

The University of Delaware (UD) and the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) have established a graduate research fellowship in renewable energy research as part of the purchase and sale of renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by UD’s 2MW wind turbine that is located adjacent to the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment’s (CEOE) Lewes, Delaware campus. The focus of the fellowship is wind energy and the storage of intermittent renewables.

The Institute for Carbon Removal Law and Policy (ICRLP) at American University (AU) invites applications for full-time, postdoctoral researchers to work on a new project aimed at the better integration of carbon removal approaches into two integrated assessment models (IAMs). The first appointment is a two-year position and will commence January 2, 2020 and run through January 2022. The second appointment is a one-year position (extendable to two years depending on the securing of additional funding) and will commence January 2, 2020 and run at least through January 2021.

We have FOUR 50% Scholarships available for NAAEE members to attend CWI's 2020 Institute on Place Based Service-Learning and Sustainability. These 50% scholarships for NAAEE members are supported by a generous private funder and are available on a first come basis.

Crossway Montessori Communities in Kensington, MD(www.crossway-community.org) applies Montessori philosophy across all of its initiatives, and builds on cutting edge research on poverty elimination, early childhood education, aging, and community development.

Each summer, Crossway runs a Farm to Table Outdoor Classroom for children as young as 18 months to 8 years old. We transform fun in the garden to fun in the kitchen exploring what makes gardens grow and how to prepare healthy food. We have a dozen garden beds, pollinator garden, mud kitchen, and two chickens!

Crossway is accepting applications for a summer resident fellow to help lead the gardening program from June 15 - August 23, 2020. We provide free housing in a furnished apartment on campus for the duration of the fellowship. There will also be plenty of opportunities for the fellow to visit all that Washington, DC has to offer.

The Department for Continuing Education at the University of Oxford is pleased to invite applications for a fully-funded scholarship worth over £38,000 to undertake the part-time MSc in Sustainable Urban Development for October 2020 entry.

The One Earth Award provides four students whose creative works address human-caused climate change with $1,000 scholarships. Additional state scholarships of $500 are available to two students from each of the following states: Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
