Interests
I’m an educator with a passion for environmental geography and sustainability. I currently teach college-level courses, including Environmental Geography and Physical Geography at Eastern Kentucky University, where I focus on the importance of environmental literacy, engaging students with real-world examples at various geographic scales and hands-on learning experiences. Growing up in Seoul and now living in Lexington, KY, I’ve seen firsthand how environmental issues affect different communities, which inspires my work in environmental education and advocacy. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring nature and spending time with family and friends.

I am a dedicated environmental geographer with over 20 years of experience in academia, research, and community engagement. My work focuses on promoting environmental literacy, sustainable development, and the use of geospatial technologies like remote sensing and GIS to address pressing global environmental changes.
I earned my Ph.D. in Geography and Environment from Boston University in 2011, where I researched the effects of land-use change on the terrestrial carbon budgets of New England. I hold an M.S. in Geography from Kent State University and a B.S. in Geography from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea.
I am passionate about teaching and have developed and taught a wide range of geography and environmental science courses at the college level. I also enjoy educating the public about environmental issues.
I’ve been fortunate to present invited lectures on topics such as "Environmental Literacy & Biodiversity Hotspots" at the University of Kentucky and "Environmental Literacy and Stewardship for Young People" for organizations like the National Association for Korean Schools Youth Leadership Camp.
