Leah Bayens is the Director of The Berry Center Farm & Forest Institute. The Institute's hands-on, community education classes focus on:

  • Farm Management

  • Woodland Management

  • Culture of Agriculture

As one of the four branches of The Berry Center, this program applies Wendell Berry’s writing to learning. It serves early career and experienced farmers, generational farm families, woodland owners, and people who support good farming and land use.

Leah brings to this work a background in agrarian, literary, and cultural studies. She helps participants unearth the living legacies of culture and agriculture. Her courses blend experiential study in forests, pastures, and rural communities with a deeper understanding of agrarianism as “a way of thought based on land."
