My name is Kristen Sturgeon, I grew up in New Jersey but have been calling Florida my home for the past 15 years. I have been working in the natural resource field for the last five years, but have always had a pull towards water resources as well. I enjoy being outdoors and visiting new areas all around Florida with my family. I have a goal to visit every state park in Florida!

I began my academic journey as a marine biology student with a passion for shark conservation. However, life took an unexpected turn, leading me to change paths and pursue a degree in Environmental Science and Policy. Through this program, I gained a broader understanding of environmental issues and learned how deeply interconnected natural systems are. I realized that if I wanted to focus on protecting a single species, such as sharks, I also needed to understand the larger environmental context that affects them.

This perspective eventually led me to an internship in land management with my local government, where I discovered a passion for conserving and protecting natural resources. I never imagined that environmental education would become such an important part of my work, but I have learned that creating meaningful change goes beyond direct conservation efforts. By sharing knowledge and inspiring others to care about the environment, we can amplify the impact of our actions and help build a more sustainable future.
