My name is Jacob Fry, I graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2023 with a degree in Conservation based biology, and a minor in outdoor adventure and leadership. During my time at UNCC I worked extensively with the universities outdoor education and adventure program: "Venture". Through Venture I honed my ability of using experiential education and group teaching to help tons of students explore and adventure the wonders that North Carolina has to offer, from ropes courses and the mountains of Western North Carolina, to the Caves deep in the appalachians. I also was introduced to the Great Outdoors University through the North Carolina Wildlife Federation during my time at UNCC, and that introduced me to the world of Environmental education. Great Outdoors University (or GoU for short) is a program in North Carolina that takes at risk summer school and kids groups into the outdoors and educates them on local wildlife and relevant science topics. I still currently work for GoU part time during the summers, and am now starting at Muddy Sneakers, which is another environmental education based program in North Carolina.

I offer a diverse and dynamic background in outdoor leadership, logistics coordination, and education-focused roles across multiple industries. I began as a Logistics Coordinator with Rainier Mountaineering Inc. in Ashford, Washington (May – September 2024), where I managed global food and gear logistics, coordinated a fleet of seven client vehicles, and maintained three lodging properties. Earlier, I worked as a Certified Snowboard Instructor at Steamboat Ski Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado (November 2023 – April 2024), teaching all ages and skill levels—including through the SOS Outreach program serving low-income, Spanish-speaking youth. Since April 2023, I’ve served as a Field Trip Leader for the North Carolina Wildlife Federation in Charlotte, leading environmental excursions like biking, canoeing, and hiking for K–12 students from underserved communities. I’ve also worked at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte (May 2022 – Present), where I progressed from Raft Guide Intern to Trip Lead, guiding engaging, safe rafting experiences, preparing gear, and organizing multiple trips concurrently while developing professionally in outdoor leadership. At UNC Charlotte (August 2021 – May 2023), I took on the VOLT (Venture Outdoor Leadership Trainer) role, leading expeditions—including rafting, kayaking, backpacking, rock climbing, and caving—managing inventory, logistics using Excel, Word, and Google tools, facilitating team building, trip planning, and reflection sessions. Together, these experiences showcase my strengths in leadership, organization, logistics, safety, and inclusive education in outdoor settings.
