I am an environmental educator and resource teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools. I spend most of my time at the Sandia Mountain Natural History center leading ecology field experiences for fifth grade students. I am also a cofounder and part-time instructor of the Community, Place, & Habitat field program at the Los Padillas Wildlife Sanctuary. Additionally, I am one of the founding members of Albuquerque Public Schools' Outdoor Learning Team through which I provide professional development to teachers across the district.

Steven has been leading ecology field experiences both at and away from the SMNHC since 2013. He is also a founding member of the district’s Outdoor Learning Team, which designed and currently operates the Los Padillas Communities, Places, and Habitats 3rd grade field experience and, among other things, provides professional development to teachers on extending their classrooms to the outdoor spaces of their campuses. Additionally, Steven co-designed the district’s Summer Learning Adventure upper elementary program which centers around a non-school-as-usual environment and engages students through creativity, making, exploration, and the outdoors.
Steven has taught first through third grades, ending his tenure in the classroom with fourth grade science and social studies. There, his students engaged in creative, hands-on projects, with learning focused by inquiry, investigation, and discovery.
Steven’s older son, currently attending art school in Philadelphia, is an incredibly creative and resourceful artist, maker, self-taught mechanic, and manipulator of electronics, images, and sounds. His second son is a founding partner of a successful game developer group and can often be found on race tracks across the country, traversing the dunes, or in foreign lands.
Steven is a certified wilderness first-responder and cat guy. During his free time, you’d most likely find him building things, making art, fixing the house, in a café, at the gym, and of course, outside. And when he’s really lucky, traveling.
