I was an upper elementary public school teacher for 17 years. I worked at one small, rural school the entire time. It was home to me. Then, the county decided to build a new school down the road that would be 3 times the size. That's when I chose to pursue a career outside of that county. It was heartbreaking. I really thought I would teach all 30 years at my tiny little school. Thankfully, that was not the case, because I love my current position. I am an MCL in another small school 15 minutes from my house. My job is two-fold: One part is to pull small groups of children who struggle with reading. The other part is to support teachers with their professional growth through coaching, mentoring, modeling, co-teaching...just an overall cheerleader for teachers. Now, I can't imagine ever doing anything else. :)
