I have been a teacher for about 30 years. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade in my hometown in Western Washington for 22 years, before moving with my family to Central Washington 5 years ago. I am now teaching in a SPED/Life Skills class as an emergency teacher for the remainder of the year while I look for a full time, continuing job for next year. I am married and we have one 15 year old bright and athletic son.

I subbed for about 3.5 years before starting my first full-time teaching job in 1999. I taugh in a public school on Native American reservation for about 10 years, then moved to a different building. I taught in a public choice program since about 2007, which was 100% parent invovlement. I LOVED teaching in this program, and gained many friends through getting to know the children and the families. I didn't think I'd ever leave that program, but things started to change, and my husband wanted to move to more sunshine. I taught online during COVID from March 2020 until Mrach 2021, then I commuted back to my hometown for work in person 4 days a week. The summer of 2021, I got a new, one year job in my new town, so I gave up my contract. Since the end of that school year, I've mostly subbed in the valley where I live, but I've had a number of 'long-term sub jobs' and non-continuing partial year contracts, including last year and this year in different SPED roles (VERY new for me!) It seems that the valley where I live is the most super-saturated teacher area in the country; there's no teacher shortage here!
