I am graduating from NCSU this semester with a BA in biological sciences and a minor in applied ecology. Currently, I work both for the city of Raleigh and Wake county as a park aide and teach various programs. As I am continuing to expand my knowledge on science communication, I find myself wanting to pursue a career that is at a minimum, adjacent to education. Naturally, continuing to develop my skills and seeking out an EE certification felt like the best course of action.

I have created a program that I have adapted for both college and highschool students regarding macroinvertebrates and their use as bioindicators. This program I developed for a few months through multiple stages. Firstly, through my natural resources class, I was required to identify something I took interest in and collect data on it to supply Crowder County Park with my findings regarding their new addition to their park. I was in charge of macroninvertebrate collection and the subsequent water quality inferences based on the diversity of freshwater macros at Crowder. Once I gathered enough information, I created figrues and visual aids to demonstrate the relevance of individual species tollerance values in relation to pollution within the park's "Dutchman's Branch". I had a small lecture within the class to go over my findings, the processes of sampling, guaging tollerance, and how biotic sampling coincides with chemical sampling. Around the same time I was doing this, I was entering the last step of my applied ecology minor at NCSU. In order to complete my minor, I had to do between 90 and 135 hours of research on a topic of my choosing and then present my findings at a symposium in spring of 2025. The past 2 years leading up to winter of 2024 led me to want to research macroinvertebrate education and what it is that makes someone effective at teaching it. I started with a program already developed by the city of Raleigh and began to analyze what I felt was effective and what was not going off of my proposed model and concept. I took my new understanding of ArcGIS and my refined understanding of bioindicators and molded much of the same information I presented to my peers that same spring to a class of highschoolers in a two part lesson.  This was my first personally created lesson and I absolutely loved it. Since its completion and my subsequent presentation of my findings at the applied ecology minor symposium, I have been eagerly seeking out more education oppurtunities through the city. In addition to this, at the end of my natural resource class that brought me to crowder the first time, my classmates and I were notified of an opening in their staff for a park aide. I went on to take this position and begin further program instruction for Crowder county park as well.
