The Monarch Mission: Empowering Students to Improve Habitat for Monarchs - A Next Generation Science Standards-based curriculum K-12

Monarch butterflies and other pollinators are in decline due to habitat loss and commercial agriculture and pesticide use.  The goal of this curriculum is to empower students K-12 to create habitat on their school grounds or in their local community. The curriculum and associated lessons were designed starting with the Next Generation Science Standards and is broken into grade bands (k-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12),  The curriculum is part of an overall experience where students apply new learning and practice critical science, engineering and 21st century skills.  They also engage in citizen science and help to build awareness in their communities about the decline of pollinators and local solutions. These lessons and activities focus on three key components including project-based learning, Green STEM (using the environment to teach STEM) and interdisciplinary instruction. This curriculum can be downloaded for free from NWF's Eco-Schools USA website: http://www.nwf.org/Eco-Schools-USA/Our-Partners/LEGO/Monarch-Misson-Lessons.aspx
