The Public Engagement Specialist develops trust-based relationships with historically marginalized community members and organizations to reduce barriers and ensure the whole community can access and feel connected to natural areas. Half of this position is focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, both internally and externally, and half of this position is focused on delivering programs and services to traditional and new audiences.
Hourly, seasonal (April-November 2021)- Specialist assists with the coordination and implementation of community programs and informal, pop-up tabling events at trailheads. They provide on the ground support for a variety of natural areas programming including campfires, skygazing, lecture-style presentations (online and in-person), and hikes, while providing excellent customer service to volunteers and to the community. 60% field based.
Hourly, temporary (April through at least December 2021)- Specialist manages, develops, and implements department-wide communications as outlined in the Natural Areas Strategic Communications Plan. This position serves as a liaison that works with internal staff to support strategic communications and public engagement. This includes composing copy for e-newsletters, social media, dept website, signs, and brochures. This position is 90% in the office, 10% in the field.
