The Great Basin Institute (GBI) and the Humboldt Toiyabe Forest will host AmeriCorps Community Outreach Educator to support the Fire Prevention Education Project, a collaborative effort to provide expanded public education and outreach to reduce risk and potential impact of wildfire. The Institute and USFS will train and deploy Community Outreach Educator to support targeted outreach to the general public, including property owners, visitors, and students.
This position will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of 11 weeks of Great Basin Institute at Galena Summer Exploration Day Camp. These are Environmental Science camps using STEM-based curriculum. This is an AmeriCorps position with the Great Basin Institute located within the Galena Creek Recreation Area, Reno, NV. This is a 450 hour AmeriCorps service term for 11 weeks beginning on Monday, May 30th and extends through Friday, August 12th, 2022.
This position is responsible for assisting with preparing and implementing “Great Basin Naturalists”, Environmental Science camps and STEM-based curriculum for school field studies. This is an AmeriCorps position with the Great Basin Institute located within the Galena Creek Recreation Area. This is a 1200 hour AmeriCorps service term for 33 weeks beginning March 14th and extending through October 28th, 2022.
The Great Basin Institute at Galena is seeking three Summer Camp Counselors for 9-week AmeriCorps positions beginning on Monday, June 7th and extending through Friday, August 6th. Camp Counselors will be responsible for assisting Summer Naturalists with the implementation of 8 weeks of Great Basin Institute at Galena Summer Exploration Day Camp beginning the week of June 14th and extending until August 7th, 2020. Each week of day camp will last 5 days (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm).
The Great Basin Institute at Galena is seeking 3 Summer Naturalists for 12-week AmeriCorps positions beginning on Tuesday, June 1st and extending through Monday August 20th. Summer Naturalists will be responsible for the implementation of the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Summer Exploration Camps and Community Outreach programs. All 8 weeks of summer day camp will last 5 days (Monday-Friday); camp programming begins at 9 am each day and ends at 5 pm.
The Visitor Center Host/Naturalist will serve as a primary contact with the public through several avenues including, but not limited to the phone, in-person, email, and special events outreach. The Naturalist/Host will communicate information regarding the Galena Creek Recreation Area’s: educational programs, geographic features, recreation sites and opportunities, trails and hiking, and local regulations to visitors. Weekly schedules will include weekend days.
