Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program

Job

We are seeking a proven leader with demonstrated and sustained experience managing people, budgets, and contract compliance to guide a well-established ecological monitoring program through a critical time of transition. BEMP is actively exploring a path towards independence (as a future 501c3 or LLC) and seeks an outstanding leader and supervisor to support excellence in programming and organizational culture for approximately six months. As Interim Director you will join a team of scientist-educators in building civic engagement through community science and environmental stewardship. You will manage a team of professionals and students who engage with thousands of diverse New Mexico students in collecting key data about the ecological status of the Middle Rio Grande and its riverside forest, the bosque.

Full and part time positions available. BEMP is a community science program along New Mexico's Rio Grande. BEMP educators deliver content rich curriculum about the bosque ecosystem and related ecological concepts to students in elementary, middle and high schools throughout the Albuquerque metro area during the school year, along with educational outreach during the summer and participate in community science, fieldwork, and research activities.

The Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP) citizen science program annually serves up to 10,000 students along New Mexico’s Rio Grande. Student findings inform river management decisions. The Albuquerque, NM based Education Coordinator ensures that BEMP’s education programs are exemplary, just, and equitable. The Education Coordinator leads a team of educators who deliver content and experiences leading to measurable and positive gains regarding environmental knowledge and action.

The Educator/Biologist will work as a ‘Phenology Network Coordinator’ to assist Local Phenology Leaders and their volunteer groups in tracking changes in plant and animal life cycle events (phenology) at multiple locations along the Rio Grande as part of larger citizen science efforts including Nature’s Notebook and the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program.
