The nonprofit Asombro Institute for Science Education in Las Cruces, New Mexico is seeking a dedicated, energetic, exceptional science educator. The Science Educator works with other staff members, professional scientists, teachers, and volunteers to deliver Asombro’s award-winning, inquiry-based science education programs (classroom and schoolyard lessons as well as field trips) to the diverse student population of the border region in southern New Mexico.
As the climate changes, increased temperatures and extreme events are predicted in the southwestern United States, which could impact crop productivity and food security. The USDA Southwest Climate Hub partnered with the Asombro Institute for Science Education to design an engaging, fun, and scientifically rigorous education unit aligned with Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

The successful candidate will become the sixth member of a motivated staff that works to increase natural scientific literacy through engaging, place-based education programs in classrooms and in the field. Each year, Asombro provides hands-on, inquiry-based education programs to more than 22,000 K-12 students.
