Backcountry Ranger duties will blend those of grounds maintenance and educator: keeping the public areas tidy, trails and restroom groomed, removal of trash and debris, general gardening including weeding and mulching, poison oak removal, operation of irrigation systems, pest management, and tool maintenance/inventory. In addition to maintenance tasks, Backcountry Rangers will provide visitor engagement, including plant harvesting, cordage production and environmental art.
Manages physical and digital resources about California native plants, botany, and the Garden, including over 13,200 volumes of books and publications, more than 84,000 assets in the online archive, a variety of art, equipment and documents, as well as information found on the Garden’s website. This position makes all of these available to staff, Garden members, and the community. This is a full-time (40 hours/wk, with one weekend day of work per month), non-exempt position.
The Interpretation Manager oversees both passive (signs/interactive features) and active (person-to-person) interpretation at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. This position works closely with the Director of Education and Engagement, the Horticultural Curator, and the Manager of Volunteer Programs. This is a full-time (40 hours per week including one weekend workday per month), exempt position that reports to the Director of Education and Engagement.
