The Wildlife Conservation Society has partnered with Miami University's Advanced Inquiry Program to offer an Master of Arts in Teaching in the Biological Sciences. The Wildlife Conservation Society is hiring Conservation Camp Counselors to work with its on-site summer camps facilitated out of our 4 zoos and 1 aquarium in New York City (Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium). This is a unique opportunity to explore education at an informal science institution. You will work part-time in the WCS Education Department.
You will work part-time in the WCS Education Department, as a Conservation Camp Counselor, at one of five WCS Zoos & Aquarium. You will oversee summer camp participants from Pre-K to High School age with full-time staff. Together, we will teach exciting science content, welcome campers with diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds, and maintain a lively learning environment. Bronx Zoo Counselors ONLY will also mentor Counselors-in-Training (CITs).
You will work part-time for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) as a valued team member of the Education Division at the Central Park Zoo and report to the Coordinator of Volunteers. You will engage over sixty youth, ages 14-19, serving in volunteer positions. You will develop these youth by helping them to learn and acquire job skills, to explore career opportunities, and to share the mission of the WCS through our live interpretation program.
The Education Department at the Bronx Zoo is seeking energetic individuals to lead outdoor play in the new Nature Trek play space. Play leaders will facilitate nature play experiences for visitors, while allowing the children to take the lead in play. Play Leaders will also work with caregivers to help them understand the goals of nature play and how to best encourage children to engage in the play.
The Research and Evaluation Associate assists the Director of Educational Research and Evaluation with the coordination of research and evaluation efforts across Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Zoos and Aquarium Education initiatives, with a 40% focus on programmatic evaluation at WCS’s city zoos (Central Park, Queens, and Prospect Park Zoos).
On February 3rd at 7pm, join WCS scientist Dr. Howard Rosenbaum for a live conservation about his research on Whales. This talk will be followed by a presentation on how to bring these science topics into the classroom. The webinar is 90 minutes and a great way to incorporate local conservation into science curriculum, while earning PD hours.
