The SoCal Climate Champions Grant invests up to US $400,000 annually in programs, projects, and research that address community climate solutions in Southern California. This grant program is designed to invest in a future with net zero emissions through clean, safe, and innovative ideas that put people and communities first.
The SoCal Climate Champions Grant seeks grant proposals that strengthen Southern California's ability to navigate climate change through resilient energy, clean air, and organic waste diversion solutions. Applicants should propose climate solution(s) that will be implemented or advanced within communities we serve using one or more of the following strategies:
- Education Strategies engage people in learning about, designing, and/or participating in climate solutions in their homes and communities.
- Community Planning Strategies coordinate and/or implement community-level solutions through policy, design plans, facilitated community forums, or other community-based strategies.
- Municipal Strategies design and/or implement green infrastructure, such as developing new technology, designing new systems, building engineering prototypes, advancing clean transportation, or greening heat islands.
The program offers a two-phase granting program in which proposals will be assessed on their demonstrated potential as measured through an objective rubric. Our rubric and priorities are publicly available in an effort to offer transparency into the process and foster an open, encouraging atmosphere as we work together to fuel a cleaner, safer, more reliable future.
This grant is open to US 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations that operate within and/or serve a community within a SoCalGas service area. Special consideration will be given to submissions that serve K-16 students or educators and Title 1 Schools. Additionally, the SoCal Climate Champions Grant may give special consideration for emerging and grassroots organizations that could thrive with additional support to execute or scale clean, safe, and innovative ideas.
Recipients this year shall receive a $40,000-$50,000 grant to be distributed by the end of 2021. They will also be offered consideration for a second round of funding and the support of SoCalGas employee volunteers to aid in their projects. Join us this year, and enter into a diverse community of accomplished non-profit leaders promoting climate solutions in Southern California.
