Environmental Education Corps Advisory Council

What is the Colorado Environmental Education Leadership Corps?

Last year, the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) was awarded a planning grant to form a statewide AmeriCorps program to advance the goals outlined in the Colorado Environmental Education Plan. In May 2020, we were awarded an operational grant and have since placed 11 AmeriCorps members with 8 Colorado EE organizations to engage in one or more of the following activities: 1) Developing and implementing new in-school and out-of-school EE programs to increase stewardship and EE field experiences for PreK-12 audiences served by the host site, 2) Building capacity for ongoing environmental stewardship through increased outreach to schools and teachers and/or increasing the impact of current programs offered, and 3) Building relationships with teachers and schools to support them in their daily EE practice through training, outreach, and support. This year, the majority of our AmeriCorps members will begin their service on August 24, 2020, and will serve for up to 11.5 months.

Purpose of the Advisory Council

In order to oversee the continued planning and execution of the program, as well as support and advance CAEE’s mission to drive excellence, foster collaboration, and mobilize support in environmental education across Colorado, we are seeking individuals who would like to participate in the Environmental Education Corps Advisory Council.

As a member of the Advisory Council, your expertise and commitment to community service and the field of environmental education will help guide the continued formation and execution of this program throughout its first operational year. Throughout the coming year, Advisory Council members will provide feedback on EE community needs and elements of the AmeriCorps member experience.

Commitment

Throughout the course of the operational phase (between September 2020 and July 2021), the Advisory Council will convene two times virtually to discuss the following:

  • Review member retention plan, social media marketing strategies, and networking and training opportunities. (Thursday, October 8 from 3-4pm MDT)
  • Review host site and member feedback and plan recruitment strategy for the next operational year. (Thursday, April 15 from 3-4pm MDT)

To join the council, or if you have any questions, please contact Kat Riley, AmeriCorps Program Coordinator, at katriley@caee.org or 303-273-9527 ext. 4. Please confirm your participation by completing this form no later than September 25, 2020.
