Education for Peacebuilding - From Learning to Practice (A Road to Geneva Event Series)

In October 2021, the Environmental Peacebuilding Association's Education Interest Group (EIG) will host a 4-part panel series titled “Education for Peacebuilding - from Learning to Practice” as part of the Road to Geneva.

Through this series, sponsored by the Education Interest Group, we aim to facilitate networking among educators and students in university-level education for environmental peacebuilding, as well as to inform the general membership and the interested public of what is being offered at the university level. The aim is to highlight innovative and effective approaches, tools, methodologies, and practices.  A parallel series for trainers and trainees will hopefully follow in due course. The four inaugural sessions are as follows:

  • Oct. 6: Essential Elements for a Course in Environmental Peacebuilding
  • Oct. 13: Beyond-the-Textbook: Effective Options for Teaching Environmental Peacebuilding
  • Oct. 20: Identifying and Teaching Required Skills
  • Oct. 27: Tips for Teaching Remotely

Each session will feature an Ignite Speaker who will launch the conversation, followed by a faculty commentator and a student commentator.  Then, to provide opportunities for networking and sharing of ideas, there will be substantial time for breakout sessions, followed by a reconvening of all participants to share out highlights of their discussions.  Finally, there will be concluding remarks by the Ignite Speaker, commentators, and possibly EnPAx President Carl Bruch. Each session will be facilitated by an EIG member whose work closely aligns with the topic. The plenary portions will be recorded, and findings from these panels may be synthesized into an article or visioning paper and will be highlighted during a panel discussion at the Second International Conference on Environmental Peacebuilding.

This event is co-sponsored by the University of Delaware Department of Political Science and International Relations.
