Outdoor Wonders and Learning (OWL) Workshop

Are you a:

  1. Classroom teacher looking to incorporate more Environmental Education into your lessons?
  2. Non-formal educator hoping to incorporate more grade level standards into your programs?
  3. K-5 pre-service teacher looking for more resources to implement Science Methods?

If you said “Yes!” to any of these questions, then a Project OWL Workshop is the place for you. Outdoor Wonders and Learning (OWL) is an Environmental Education-based curriculum guide written and designed to match North Carolina Essential Standards for elementary grades. It focuses on Science, but also meets Math, Social Studies, and English-Language Arts when applicable. During the workshop, participants will experience OWL activities and learn more about how they work on their own, or as part of a larger lesson. This workshop also spends time on creating programs and lessons using a Learning Cycle method and provides opportunity for participants to update an old favorite, or create a whole new one!  Educators gain skills and resources to facilitate engaging, inquiry-based lessons that meet NC Essential Standards and develop comfort with science and nature.

Outdoor Wonders and Learning is presented by The North Carolina Arboretum. OWL is a Criteria 1 workshop for NC EE Certification, and can also count toward Criteria 3 or CEUs.
