Citizen Science and Social Justice in Your Community

Connecting hard science and public policy, CELF is partnering with Mt. Sinai Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit and CUNY School of Law's Center for Urban Environmental Renewal to provide professional development for teachers in grades 5-12, with breakouts by grade level clusters. Connect with industry-leading science research professionals, learn to use New York City to make authentic place-based connections and come away with citizen science opportunities for your students.

Participating teacherswill be able to:

  • Integrate Education for Sustainability (EfS) concepts into core curriculum
  • Understand environmental health factors affecting child health and learning
  • Use NYC and your school neighborhood as a living laboratory for place-based learning
  • Lead students through an inquiry-based learning process
  • Develop citizen science opportunities for your students
