Mass Audubon’s South East region encompasses six main wildlife sanctuaries with in Marshfield-North River and Daniel Webster, Attleboro-Oak Knoll, Plymouth-Tidmarsh, Wareham-Great Neck, and Westport-Allens Pond and teaches extensive school, youth, adult, and camp education programs. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Teacher Naturalist II to join our year-round staff. The Teacher Naturalist II (TNII) position will focus on the coordination, development, and instruction of the public adult programs across the South East region.
The TN II will coordinate with the Lead Teacher Naturalist and teach programs on local ecology, live animals, science, and art across the region with the goals of engagement and moving people towards conservation action. This work will take place inside classrooms, online, and outside at our sanctuaries and other conservation areas including forest, urban green space, meadow, and wetland habitats. The majority of hours will be coordinating, teaching and overseeing adult programs but the TN II may also be asked to coordinate and instruct visitor engagement, group, family, camp and school programs as needed.
The successful candidate will bring the following to our team of professional educators: enthusiasm for and knowledge of the natural world and environmental education; an ability to work collaboratively in a team setting; and a desire to move program participants to conservation action and connect them further to Mass Audubon’s mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate with regional Lead Teacher Naturalist to ensure program offerings are in conjunction with Mass Audubon program goals and enhance the regional program portfolio.
Oversee the daily instruction of adult programs to ensure that the highest level of programming is consistently delivered to our audience across the South East region.
Regularly develop and deliver programming (including field schools, nature based and natural history programs, certificate programs, birding programs etc.) in person and online.
Monitor program budgets. Maintain records and files of program revenue and expenses. Track expenditures against budget and work with other sanctuary staff to take corrective action, as necessary.
Assist in activities during vacation weeks, camp, special events and support membership development and fundraising, as needed.

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:
Experience in program design; specifically, curriculum that supports field specific frameworks for environmental and STEM education, science interpretation, and informal learning fields;
Bachelor’s degree in education, biological or earth science, environmental studies, or equivalent with three or more years of experience;
Natural history knowledge and an intense curiosity to learn more about Southeastern Massachusetts habitats;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in office software applications;
Pass both the Criminal and Sex Offender Record Information (expanded CORI & SORI) background records checks;
Experience and comfort with instructional technologies. Excellent teaching and interpretive skills.
Nice to Haves:
An understanding of and background knowledge related to Adult Learning Theory
Certifications in community CPR (child and adult levels) and basic first aid current or willingness to obtain
Compensation & Benefits
This position’s base salary range is $21.10 - $23.65 per hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Full time: Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday with occasional evening or special event requirements.
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
Mass Audubon requires that all staff, regardless of their work location, disclose their vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status will be required immediately upon hire. This should also include a booster shot if it has been 5 months since you were initially vaccinated.
