College Settlement is a non-profit organization that has been providing camp programs to children and youth from the Philadelphia area for over 100 years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: 21+, camp &/or outdoor education/adventure experience, ability to drive 15 passenger van, experience working with teens.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: Salary DOE. $3100+ for season. 2-week training w/ First Aid/CPR, lifeguard training, high ropes certification all provided on site.
Diverse, inclusive and friendly work environment. Work with staff from all over the world. Every other weekend off between camp sessions. Optional additional fall season work as Teacher Naturalist available (through November)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in camping, education, recreation, or group-related work.
Two years’ experience with adventure based activities such as kayaking, white water rafting, climbing or biking
Three years’ experience in hiking and camping, with solid knowledge of Leave No Trace principles
At least two years’ experience in driving motor vehicles
At least 6 months experience working with teenage youth
Experience and desire to lead extended overnight outdoor recreation and outdoor living skills programs.
Age 21 years or more

⦁ The ability to communicate and work with campers and staff, and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
⦁ Ability to observe campers behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate Risk Management Code regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
⦁ Ability to train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
⦁ Ability to lead ropes course and biking programs.
⦁ Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environment and other hazards related to any camp activity the staff member participates in or leads.
⦁ Ability to lead trip programs such as hiking, rock climbing, river trips (tubing, kayaking, etc.), and mountain biking.
⦁ Ability to lead trip programs into museums and science institutions located in urban areas
⦁ Ability to drive a standard 10 passenger van.
⦁ Physical ability to participate in all facets of camp Teen Adventure Program
⦁ Ability to work long hours especially during the operation of the summer camp.
⦁ To assist in the planning of 5 and 12-day high adventure trip programs. Activities may include backpacking, river canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, horse riding and technical rock climbing.
⦁ To prepare for and lead all activities involved in the program including activities based at the base camp and Spruce Run Outpost.
⦁ Teach campers and staff biking/ropes etiquette and promote low impact outdoor living skills.
⦁ Teach camp-craft, low impact outdoor living skills and promote proper trail/outdoor ethics.
⦁ Facilitate low and high ropes course, climbing tower, hiking and biking programs.
⦁ Become completely familiar with those aspects of Risk Management Code which apply to the Teen Adventure Program.
⦁ Develop and implement a program that includes environmental education and Outdoor Living Skill development, and is consistent with the ideas presented in the Teen Adventure Manual.
⦁ Plan and lead prep/instructional sessions to help prepare the campers for their all activities
⦁ Prepare for all out-of-camp trips: Confirm schedules and activities with vendors, presenters and partnering organizations.
⦁ Work closely with Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director and Food Services Manager to plan and coordinate both on-site and offsite activities and menus.
⦁ Coordinate and facilitate all TAP climbing and biking programs ensuring participants have correct instruction, are properly fitted for equipment and follow set procedures as outlined in the Risk Management Code.
⦁ Maintain all TAP camping, climbing and biking equipment and equipment storage areas to ensure equipment is kept in good repair.
⦁ Develop and lead main campus activities to enhance camper’s skills.
⦁ Maintain, in accordance with industry standards, all camping, ropes course, climbing tower and biking equipment and maintain accurate record of such.
⦁ At the Spruce Run Outpost, ensure all program activities are thoroughly instructed and executed INCLUDING but not limited to perimeter hikes, visiting Crissman’s farm and swimming in Crissman’s pond, night hikes and creek crawls.
⦁ At the Spruce Run Outpost, ensure campers are able to effectively participate in preparing, cooking and clean up for all meals using correct sanitization and hygiene protocols.
⦁ Maintain accurate medical, incident and accident documentation.
⦁ Become familiar with and follow all policies and emergency procedures as outlined in the TAP Manual and Summer Camps at College Settlement Camp Risk Management Code.
⦁ Maintain, in accordance with industry standards, all vehicle, trailer, camping and food preparation equipment, and maintain accurate record of such.
⦁ Supervise the health and safety of all campers during activities.
⦁ Act as a representative of the Camp in all dealings with people that are encountered during the TAP trips.
⦁ At the end of summer, submit an End of Summer Report, Summer Highlights and all relevant evaluation forms.
⦁ Become familiar with those aspects of the ACA Standards which relate to your job responsibilities.
⦁ Assist with other duties as needed e.g. assuming daily role as counselor when not leading TAP off-site activities, etc.
