Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to): Scout & WSP Coordinator is responsible for scout programs, campouts, and Wildlife Safari Park programs.

  • Development of Wildlife Safari Park curriculum meeting state and national standards.
  • Coordinate scout programs, campouts, WSP events, and assist with classes, day camps, citizen science, student workshops, teacher workshops at WSP and Zoo.
  • Provide professional development and training for scout leaders and assist with volunteer training.
  • Coordination of schedules, resources and supplies for campout and scout programs at the WSP and Zoo.
  • Prepare and send out all invoices and refunds for campouts and scout programs at the Zoo and WSP.
  • Evaluation and maintenance of WSP programs and scout programs to meet visitor needs.
  • Maintain and assist volunteer manager with WSP volunteers (training, evaluating, and scheduling).
  • Develop and coordinate special events and Family programs at the WSP.
  • Promote, and advertise all scout and WSP programs to area school districts, home school programs, youth organizations, scouting organizations, and general public.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H.
  • Prepare monthly working schedules for campout leaders, scout leaders, and volunteers.
  • Notify building supervisors and security of scheduled campout and scout programs at Zoo and WSP.
  • Facilitate registration/ scheduling process for scout and campout programs at the Zoo and WSP.
  • Maintain a weekly events document for WSP staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain and upkeep all program records at Zoo and WSP.
  • Coordinate all Eagle Scout projects and campouts.
  • Assist conservation education coordinator with citizen science programs at the WSP.
  • Meet regularly with the Education Program Manager- WSP & Overnight Experiences.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Flexibility in scheduling:  Schedule varies during campout season (Sunday- Thursday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm).
  • Enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to coordinate complex schedules.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience in planning and/or directing large events.
  • Experience with volunteer management.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Will performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or move for long periods of time, up to 8 hours.
  • Employee will frequently have to travel between two different locations. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and Wildlife Safari Park located in Ashland, Nebraska.
  • This positions performs the majority of its function in an outdoors environment. There are frequent occasions where this position will be exposed to the elements.
  • Walk long distances across locations.
  • Must have the ability to frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
