Cuyamaca Outdoor School is a training ground for those interested in the field of Outdoor Education or Environmental Education. Instructional Interns will grow under the guidance of our experienced permanent Outdoor Education Specialists, Village Leaders, and Head Teachers, learning a variety of classes, activities, and skills. Over the six-month internship, interns will teach science classes, local natural history lessons, team building activities, as well as learn how to belay and facilitate archery instruction. Interns receive training in all classes before they teach on their own.


  • Knowledge of natural and environmental sciences
  • Works effectively with students and adults in small and large group settings
  • Experience working in a residential outdoor education or recreation program with school-age children
  • Has a passion for teaching in and about the natural world
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, adaptable personality, strong work ethic, and likes to have fun
  • Completion of college-level course work in natural sciences or other related topics

Position Details

September 2, 2022 start date; $15.00 starting hourly rate, plus free room and board, and more; This is a six-month position. Upon successful completion of internship this position turns into a full-time, limited term employment through June 2023 and a raise to $21.56 per hour.
