Job Description:

We seek an enthusiastic, knowledgeable person to teach in and help administer a large, established nature program at Camp Pemigewassett in Wentworth, NH ( While we will consider all applicants, you must have a broad background in natural history, with a strong interest in at least one of the following: ornithology (birding), astronomy, aquatic (fresh water) ecology, darkroom (film) photography. Background or additional interest in one of the following would be a plus: geology or other aspect of natural history, nature drawing or environmental sculpture, or other nature/art skills, as would teaching experience in a school, in an environmental or outdoor education program, or at a camp, museum, or science center. You must enjoy working with children aged 8-15. We have excellent facilities including reference collections of rocks and minerals, insects, and plants, field and laboratory equipment, a darkroom, microscopes, an 8 inch reflecting telescope, and a 1000 volume library, all housed in a large nature center. We are a private, residential camp for boys 8-15 located on a small lake in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Our 700 acre campus has a range of habitats from floating acid bog to hardwood and conifer forests. We are close to many other mountain, meadow, lake, and river localities. The majority of our campers are with us for our full 7 week season. We have a 91 year tradition of science-based nature education and the program is headed by a geologist with 47 years of camp experience. Our associate program head (also a geologist) has over 22 years of nature center/museum/environmental education experience. Candidates for this generalist position must be at least 19 years of age. Male candidates will be expected to live in and supervise a cabin with 6-10 campers. Female candidates will be expected to help supervise a cabin. Room and board is included in the salary.
