Our Stillaguamish Senior Restoration Specialist, 

  • Develops proposals for new and expanded projects that meet highest habitat need and recovery objectives and other related actions and initiatives lead by the agency.
  • Works with collaborators, assembles habitat and fisheries data to inform the development of goals, objectives, and actions for advancement of restoration projects.
  • Ensures project proposals are developed consistent with the Restoration Pathway and the Conservation Initiative.
  • Coordinates with regional habitat, fish and wildlife biologists and engineers, prepares recommendations for consideration of project proposals, and brief staff on status of restoration project implementation.
  • Ensures timely and active engagement and resource support for real estate activities associated with acquisitions.
  • Ensures permitting processes are completed and monitoring is both planned and conducted.
  • Understands how fish and habitat science and models inform restoration priorities, seeks habitat project opportunities using collaborative partnerships and community involvement.
  • Supports and helps carry out Restoration Pathway guidelines and policy.
  • Leads discussions and negotiates agreements associated with habitat restoration projects and opportunities on WDFW lands by cooperatively engaging regional and district teams.
  • Works with supervisor and program budget managers to develop fiscally responsible proposals and scopes of work.
  • Ensures staff allotments are complete and efficient for accomplishing work.
  • Develops written proposals and presents presentations for grant opportunities and funding.


Work Setting, including hazards: 

Work is performed primarily in the office and meeting settings, and occasional travel to meetings within the Region and statewide is required. 
Periodic walking over rough terrain for short distances (<1 mile) regularly or occasionally over long distances (several miles).
Occasional working extended hours as necessary to complete assignments.
May include extended travel during evening or overnight trips.


Typically, Monday – Friday - 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. although schedule varies with work and travel requirements.

Travel Requirements:

Traveling up to 15% of the time, there will be periodic – Statewide or regional travel and occasional attendance at evening meetings.

Tools and Equipment: 

Laptop computer and remote access to internal WDFW applications; and cell phones.

Customer Interactions:

Frequent interactions with state agency, tribal, and local governments staff and leads, including Ecology, Agriculture, Health, county commissioners, tribal staff, and the public. 
Effective negotiations with clients, local government, and tribal governments.



  • A Bachelor of Science degree in fish or wildlife biology/management, environmental planning/science, or closely related field. 


  • Five (5) years of professional experience in environmental or natural resource management, planning, or program development, two (2) of which must include management experience.


  • Experience will substitute year over year for education.

Please Note: 

  • A Master’s or Doctorate degree in these fields may substitute for two years of the required experience, but not the management experience.


Must demonstrate experience and strong competence in these skills and abilities in:

  • Advanced principles of management, including strategic planning, developing, and monitoring budgets, contract negotiation, program/project management, and conflict resolution.
  • Assessing of fish and wildlife habitat needs based on various technical studies.
  • Negotiating agreements without compromising scientific credibility or agency policy.
  • Planning activities to ensure efficient and effective effort is applied to meet goals.
  • Commitment to safety for staff conducting fieldwork.
  • Effective verbal communication and written communication for advocacy, coaching and mentoring, consulting, and negotiating.
  • Ethics and integrity, as well as inclusiveness, relationship building, communication effectiveness, tact and diplomacy, interpersonal influence, performance leadership, team leadership, adaptability/flexibility, results orientation and initiative, and accountability.
  • Resourcefulness in problem solving and creative and innovative thinking.
  • Organizational and political awareness are essential to effectively attaining agency goals of conserving and restoring ecosystems.
  • Judgment in all controversial arenas including fish and wildlife protection and restoration activities.
  • Decisiveness to protect and restore habitat in the face of pressure, controversy, and limited budget.


  • A Master's degree or above with major emphasis in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field




  • Three (3) years of professional experience in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, and/or program development.



  • One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3 or similarly allied position.


Job experience and knowledge of: 

  • Applied fish and wildlife management techniques, general ecological principles and practices, conservation, and restoration biology.
  • Environmental engineering principles.
  • Environmental regulations, including SEPA, HPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Growth Management Act and Shoreline Management Act.
  • Marine, nearshore, and freshwater ecosystems.
  • Human influences to aquatic ecosystems.
  • Advocacy based on goals of WDFW (protect and restore ecosystem function and processes for fish and wildlife habitat).
