Overview:

Prairie School of DuPage is seeking multiple full-time educators to join our team in the elementary and middle school classrooms for the 2020-2021 school year.
We are interested in meeting those educators who are passionate about the outdoors and will create specific roles around the best candidates and their strengths.
We have a September through early June school calendar with days off for typical school breaks.
Ideal candidates will be passionate and dedicated teachers with a background in either Language Arts, Science or Environmental Science, History/Social Studies or a combination thereof.

We are interested in educators with either early grades experience or upper elementary grades and middle school experience.

The right candidate will have a love of nature and the outdoors. Applicants with camping skills, outdoor education experience or a specific naturalist interest are highly encouraged. All full-time teachers participate in outdoor programming every day during all seasons and in all kinds of weather. They must be able to hike up to 2 miles comfortably, lift and carry at least 25 lbs comfortably. Must be a team player and open to working with colleagues on the development of an integrated curriculum and project-based work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in Education or in a field related to the subject being taught, or in an environmental/natural science-related field required

4+ years of experience working in a classroom setting, preferably with elementary-aged children

An affinity for nature and the outdoors and enjoys being outside in all kinds of weather

Passionate about, or have an interest in learning more about the local environment, flora, and fauna

Collaborative and inclusive working style

Curious, energetic, hardworking and a positive attitude

Commitment to serving and furthering the educational philosophy of PSOD

Ability to differentiate within a mixed-age group classroom

Demonstrated ability to use compassionate classroom management techniques

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Have a working understanding of constructivist and place-based educational models. Candidates with a background in Language Arts instruction should have knowledge and experience using Reader's/Writer's workshop and guided reading techniques.
