Lights Out for Environmental Justice January 30 1 - 5 pm.

Our friends at Virginia Interfaith Power & Light are hosting a Power-fast for Environmental Justice on January 30th from 1pm - 5 pm. I feel that environmental justice and spirituality go hand-in-hand. As a spiritual resident of the Earth, the well being of my global siblings is of tremendous concern. Can you? Will you, regardless of where you reside, stand in solitude with our friends that may not have heat or light ? If you are able to take place in this event, please post your experiences and insights gained through the experience. We would love to share this with you. If you can't participate today, try another day this week or month. Let us know what message it brings to you.

I definitely want to practice an energy fast at some point, but it's definitely challenging to figure out when to do it since so much of my professional and personal life feel like they "require" energy. This also makes me remember how much privilege I have to be able to have access to clean energy when I need it, which I know is not true for people around the world, including in the United States. It seems like engaging in an energy fast could work best for my next weekly Sabbath practice, but I also wonder if that's a choice based more out of convenience than conviction. However, maybe that's a good enough place to start? I'll report back with how it goes :)
