Start of School - Share Your Favorite Nature/EE Activities and Icebreakers

With the start of school, I thought it would be helpful for us to share favorite nature activities and icebreakers to do with students. Do you have ideas for back-to-school activities that incorporates going outside or bringing the outdoors into the classroom?

Please reply to this discussion thread, and feel free to add links and photos. I can't wait to hear from you!

Michelle, Thanks so much for posting the link. It provides great ideas for rewording back-to-school assignments to be appropriate for children who are in foster care, adopted, lost a loved one, and more.

Nature Scavenger Hunt - I am doing a scavenger hunt with my 7th grade science students the first week of school. I created one for students attending school and one for virtual students at home. I plan to do a scavenger hunt each season to get students outside observing nature. Below are links to resources that provided inspiration.

"Draw a scientist at work"
Here's a fun and insightful "First Day of Science" activity that helps children realize that ALL students can be scientists!
I have done this with students in the past and most draw a male scientist in a lab coat working indoors. I want to change students' perceptions of careers in science and teach them about exciting careers outdoors!
