need some help justifying the existence of an EE degree!

I'm trying to quickly gather some research-based info on why it's important for a University to offer an EE degree, and why the field of EE needs degreed professionals, who've specialized in this work. I want to show why it's important that students have the option for a degree of this nature, rather than a "generic" master's degree in education with just a few (optional) environment-related courses sprinkled in. THANK YOU for any resources or suggestions you are able to provide.
