Connecting Youth, Science and Community Action: Building Capacity for Change

Date: June 29, 2022
Time: 2-4 pm EST
Length: 2 hours

Leaders of museum and cultural institution youth civic engagement programs are invited to attend a special 2-hour collaborative learning session focused on empowering youth to take community action related to climate change and conservation. Session leaders and youth participants will share stories, tips on getting started, and a handy toolkit which can help take the guesswork out of what to do next. Participants will engage in interactive discussions, learn from each other, receive follow up communication and opportunities to activate youth through a virtual climate summit (Sept 2022), and gain access to a network of successful youth climate and conservation groups from across the U.S. Special guest Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, Newhouse Director of CIRCLE (Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement) at Tufts University will provide context and set the stage for our learning. Kei has a background in positive youth development and social-emotional learning and is a leading expert on civic education, learning, and engagement, with a strong interest in diverse and marginalized youth. A national, nonpartisan research center founded in 2001 and focused on young people in the United States, especially those who are marginalized or disadvantaged in political life. CIRCLE’s scholarly research informs policy and practice for healthier youth development and a better democracy.
