Action Alert: Letter to Congressional Leadership Asking for Funding Use of Outdoor Spaces for Schools

Please join us in signing on to a letter to Congressional leadership asking for improvements to the schoolyard for outdoor learning and environmental education in any relief package for schools.

As Congress considers the next round of stimulus funding, there is significant discussion about how much money is needed to help schools reopen safely and equitably across the U.S. Many schools are in disrepair, lack proper ventilation, and are overcrowded. Even with sufficient emergency relief funds to address these issues, most schools will still face challenges to bringing students back to school for in-person learning in part because of a lack of physical space to accommodate social distancing. The eeGuidance put forward by NAAEE Affiliates provides some practical recommendations for ways that schools can address some of these challenges as they plan for a return to school whether in-person or virtually. And, as many of you know, there is a growing community of diverse voices encouraging schools to consider available outdoor spaces for safer and more engaging education. For this reason, NAAEE and partners are asking Congress to support improvements to the schoolyard for outdoor learning and environmental education in any relief package for schools.

Because of the swift moving nature of this issue, we’re asking that you sign on to this letter using this simple form by COB on Tuesday July 21.

Please share this request widely with your networks!

Thank you for all you do.
